Sports have always played an important role in the lives of millions of people from across the world. As a pastime that everyone can share a level of comradery in, sports act as a means of identifying a sense of community between different groups.
For Nitya Capital founder Swapnil Agarwal, sports mean more than simply a pastime between opposing teams. From the very beginning, Mr. Agarwal found himself highly inspired by sports, by the sense of unity and strength that athletes show for their team. Below, Swapnil expresses his fondest opinions on sports and the teams that shaped his life.
“The first thing I did when I came to this country to acclimate myself to the culture was to learn sports. None of the sports that they play here are played in India. Here we have basketball, baseball, and football. I learned about each individual sport and got into them over time. I grew up in Houston and I’ve always loved my hometown teams, especially the Rockets, Texans, and Astros.
I’m still a fan to this day. What I love best about athletes and sports is just the sense of competition and leaving it all out on the floor. That moment of glory when you win the game…I just love that sense of hard work and stamina. They really put a lot of effort into everything they do and you really see so little of just how much they push themselves.”
Swapnil’s love for sports ultimately helped shape him into the man he became today, as well as sparked a sense of pride and support for his Houston community. He has expressed a level of excitement with the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, and is rooting for Team USA.
